I’m looking for an optimist. Within myself. This is what came out:


‘That Sunday (that summer)’. Circa 1968 song recorded by Nat King Cole, I think.

I have played this song, poorly, on our piano several times a year throughout our marriage. And it always resonates. I’ve lived this song. I sometimes think it was a first kiss, but then again, maybe it was your smile, an invitation to kiss. That day. That Sunday. That summer.


I believe my first unsaid words to you were “Hi, Mona Lisa.
