Mawkish means excessively sentimental or so sappy it's sickening. Which is how you'd describe two lovebirds gushing over each other in the park; or your grandma's cooing, cheek pinches, and sloppy kisses as she welcomes you to thanksgiving dinner. The adjective mawkish came into vogue in the 1600s.

Last night: What a trip. I’ve been so blue for so many days. I’m pulling back on the yoke, I’m straining, but I think I’m not gonna crash - leveling off - I think. That shit’s scary.
This morning: Nah. I’m good. Hate it when that happens though. Surely I’m not the only being to have an ‘Oh, just fucking shoot me’ day, after day, after day after…. Or maybe I am. And that thought makes me feel lonely. Only more so; ‘cause I was already lonely.
