It's just Irritating

It irritates me when someone asks, "How are you?" Usually, it's said without the question mark. More flat, as in "Hello." So why the fuck don't they just say "Hello." I believe most Europeans are perplexed by this American version of "Hello." I think they think, upon hearing their American officemate say it, that he's actually concerned about how they are.

But that could be just me.

It also annoys me because it implicitly implies (I like those two words together) I should know the answer.

Fat Chance.

I knew a guy in college who would always answer the question literally, as if it were actually a question (you're right, it isn't).

Me: "How's it going, Doug."

Him: "Well...I didn't sleep very well last night because I was having some funny dreams and now my head kind of hurts so I guess I might go to the food hall for some breakfast but I'm still really tired so I dunno..."

Me: *thousand yard stare*
